Choose a night on Melasti Beach ↗Quick answer
Melasti Beach is in Ungasan, in the South Kuta district at the southern end of Bali, on the Bukit Peninsula. Most visitors come by private car, rented scooter or a booked driver, heading for Jalan Melasti in Ungasan. The road down to the beach winds through the cliffs. Pay the beach entrance fee and parking at the gate, and arrange your ride back before the show, since it ends after dark.
Where Melasti is
The Bukit Peninsula is the hilly, limestone tail of Bali, traditionally reckoned as everything south of Jimbaran beach, with a dry, stony landscape unlike the green rice country further north. It forms the South Kuta district of Badung regency. Ungasan is one of the villages up on its plateau, and Melasti Beach belongs to it. The beach shares its name with Melasti, the Balinese purification ceremony held at the water's edge before Nyepi, and the ceremony is still performed here.
By car or with a driver
Indonesia's tourism ministry suggests a private or rented vehicle from Uluwatu or Jimbaran to Jalan Melasti in Ungasan, and that is how most visitors arrive. A driver booked for the evening saves you the parking and the dark road back. The approach is paved, but a detikBali report describes it as winding and in places a little narrow, and the regency's tourism page mentions the curving road down the cliffside. Allow extra time, since evenings at the beach can be busy.
By scooter
If you ride a rented scooter, parking at the gate covers motorbikes as well as cars. If you have not ridden in Bali traffic before, a winding descent at dusk is not the place to start. Bring a helmet, keep your phone light handy for finding your bike afterwards, and remember that you will ride back up in the dark. If anyone in your group is unsure, a car with a driver is the calmer choice for this particular evening.
At the gate
Two payments sit outside your ticket: the Melasti Beach entrance fee and parking, both paid at the gate. Have money ready so you are not held up while the benches fill. Bring the passport or ID card the ticket requires, and have your voucher ready to show at the entrance to the kecak. From there, stairs lead to the show area; the venue is wheelchair and pushchair accessible up to that point, so anyone with limited mobility should plan for the last stretch.
Timing your arrival
Your ticket shows the start time for your date. Aim to reach the beach well before it, because the seating is not numbered and the best spots go to early arrivals; reviewers who came twenty minutes or more ahead found good seats, while busy nights leave latecomers standing. Arriving early also gives you time on the sand before the show, apply insect repellent before dusk, and watch the cliffs change colour as the sun drops. Badung regency's tourism page counts Melasti among the best places in Bali to watch a sunset, so an early wait is rarely dull.
The ride back
The show ends after dark, and everyone leaves at once. If you came with a driver, agree the pickup point and time before the show; if you are driving, expect a short queue out of the car park and a slow climb back up the cliff road. If you plan to rely on a ride-hailing app, have a fallback ready. A torch or phone light helps on the stairs and in the car park.
